In pursuance of the modified Deed of Foundation of the National Institute and Library for Health Information (MEDINFO), from 1 March 2004 the institute continues its activities as the National Institute for Strategic Health Research.
As a methodological research institute it carries out activities in the fields of health informatics, health economics, health system sciences, technology assessment and support policy in connection with the sector's formulation of health policy strategy and decision preparation.
Some of the institute's programmes:
- Establishment of an integrated data model for the health sector;
- Preparation of studies discussing the most important issues of health policy and incorporating international perspective and comparability;
- Determination of clinical practice guidelines for technology assessment, coordination of new and existing work of assessment;
- Providing information to players in the health care field.
While ESKI's homepage and health library are widely available to health policy makers, health professionals and interested visitors, our publications have been made specifically for those working in the health care field.
The institute's task also includes coverage and processing of the Hungarian medical and health care literature and preparation of the
Magyar Orvosi Bibliográfia (Hungarian Medical Bibliography) that can be reached electronically from our homepage.
Library services: reference service, online catalogue, reading room, lending of library materials is temporarily suspended, interlibrary loan service, current content service for Hungarian and foreign journals, topic monitoring (selective dissemination of information).

Our translation service undertakes translation and proofreading work in medical and health care subjects and organises interpretation activities.
For many years ESKI has been collecting and providing community health information. The interested visitor can find useful information in many areas of health both in our library and on our website. We consider it our mission to create oppurtunities for access to information and helpful advice. Development of databases constitutes the basis of our community information system.
